Top efficiency for 1.5A step-down
convertor
Efficient DC/DC convertor supports input voltages from 1.8 to 3.8V.
Texas Instruments has introduced a 1.5A DC/DC step-down convertor that helps extend battery life in 2-cell alkaline or nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) powered electronics, such as portable audio players TI's TPS62510 97-percent efficient convertor supports an adjustable input voltage range from 1.8V to 3.8V
The device can also regulate the point-of-load power supply from a fixed 3.3, 2.5 or 1.8V input voltage.
The TPS62510 operates in a 1.5MHz fixed frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) mode with the mode pin high, or in a high-efficiency mode at nominal load current.
For increased power savings, the device automatically enters a power save mode at light load currents.
The TPS62510 also achieves maximum system reliability with an output voltage tracking feature that provides sequencing and allows the output voltage to track to an applied external voltage.
