ADC enables 14bit resolution with 200MHz bandwidth for high-speed digitisers, spectrum analysers, test and measurement equipment and general data acquisition systems.

At 400Msample/s, Texas Instruments reckons its latest 14bit A/D convertor is the industry's fastest The new ADC provides unmatched performance of 11.1 effective number of bits (ENOB) at this speed, enabling high-bandwidth applications such as test and measurement instrumentation, software-defined radio, radar systems and communication instrumentation that were previously confined to lesser resolution ADCs

Enabled by TI's proprietary BiCom3 process technology, the ADS5474 integrates an on-chip buffer amplifier to ease analogue front-end (AFE) design.

The buffer amplifier eliminates sample-and-hold kickback and provides a high input impedance over time and frequency, simplifying the AFE design for wide bandwidth applications from DC to intermediate frequencies (IF) well above 200MHz.

Additionally, the ADS5474 is pin-for-pin compatible to the ADS5463 12bit, 500Msample/s ADC, in a space-saving 14 x 14mm package, providing an easy design path across multiple systems using TI ADCs.

The 400Msample/s sample rate provided by the ADS5474 with 70dB full-scale signal/noise ratio (SNR) through first Nyquist and 69dB full-scale SNR through second Nyquist offers a number of benefits to the customer in several applications.

It improves transmit power amplifier linearisation and efficiency when used in conjunction with a digital predistortion algorithm, lowering total system cost.

It enables sampling of larger bandwidths in radar systems, resulting in enhanced tracking resolution and object discrimination.

It allows software-defined radios to implement a greater number of standards with higher sensitivity.

And it enables 14bit resolution with 200MHz bandwidth for high-speed digitisers, spectrum analysers, test and measurement equipment and general data acquisition systems.

The ADS5474 is available now in an 80-pin TQFP PowerPAD package and is priced at US $150.00 each in 1000-piece quantities.
