High-voltage boost convertor with integrated FET supports boost, SEPIC and flyback topologies to regulate single or dual Li-ion battery inputs.

New from Texas Instruments is a tiny, high-voltage boost convertor with an integrated 40V/1.2A FET and a wide input-voltage range of 3 to 18V The high-efficiency device supports boost, SEPIC (single-ended primary inductor convertor) and flyback topologies, which are used to regulate single or dual Li-ion battery inputs

Available in a 2 x 2mm QFN package, the convertor simplifies design in industrial or medical point-of-load applications, such as 5 to 12 or 12 to 24V systems.

The TPS61170 operates at a fixed switching frequency of 1.2MHz, allowing the use of tiny, low-profile inductors and low-value ceramic input and output capacitors.

The boost convertor features single-wire digital serial interface and pulsewidth modulation (PWM) inputs, which allows the device to dynamically adjust the output voltage during operation.

Protection features of the TPS61170 include soft-start, overcurrent limit and overtemperature protection.

The TPS61170 is available today in volume from TI and its authorised distributors.

Suggested resale pricing in quantities of 1000 units is US $1.40.
