Ideal for applications where heatsinking is not possible or where cost and space are issues, BPR series high-power resistors from Tyco Electronics are available in power ratings from 500 to 1500W.

Ideal for applications where heatsinking is not possible or where cost and space are issues, BPR series high-power resistors from Tyco Electronics are available in power ratings from 500 to 1500W.

Designed for dynamic braking, snubbing, motion control and capacitor charging and discharging, the resistors deliver up 1500W continuous power or up to 14kJ at 1ohm.

Low ohmic bulk foil versions are available to order, as are custom designs.

Compared with most power resistors that have to be mounted to a heat sink to achieve their rated power dissipation, BPR resistors have been designed to incorporate an internal heatsink, meeting the more demanding requirements of the power switching industry.

An additional advantage of the internal heatsink is that the surface temperature of the resistor runs relatively cool.

The resistor is environmentally sealed to IP64 for use in industrial conditions.

It is offered in three versions, BPR 500 with a continuous rated power of 500W and 1ohm to 25kohm resistance range, BPR 1000, rated to 1000W with 1ohm to 47kohm range, and BPR 1500, rated to 1500W continuous over a 1ohm to 60kohm range.

Key features include +/-10% resistance tolerance, -55 to +350C operating temperature, a voltage withstand of 2kV, high stability, and 330C surface temperature at rated power.
