Tyco Electronics has added the MultiGig RT -2 series of signal modules to its MultiGig RT connector family.

Tyco Electronics has added the MultiGig RT -2 series of signal modules to its MultiGig RT connector family.

The new series is designed to handle signal speeds between 3.0 and 6.4Gbit/s with contact density of 113 contacts per inch, and has the capability to 10Gbit/s when using serdes semiconductor technology.

The previously announced MultiGig RT -1 modules are suitable for speeds to 3.125Gbit/s.

The MultiGig RT connector family is a robust printed circuit based, pinless design composed of modular components, which can be used in a variety of combinations.

The modules can be combined to provide the density, power, guidance, and signal integrity performance required for applications in today's computer, communications, military, medical, industrial control, and test and measurement industries.

The connector's innovative use of printed circuit wafers instead of conventional pin and socket contacts allows for cost effective sequencing and electrical customisation of the connector.

Wafers can be manufactured specifically for differential or single ended performance and the impedance, propagation delay, and crosstalk of the connector can be adjusted per customer requirements.

The pinless design eliminates the pin field on backplane boards that can lead to bent pin field failures in card cage systems.

MultiGig RT -2 connector modules are available for both 0.8 and 1.0in pitch card spacing.

This series allows designers the freedom to match signal modules, power modules, and guide pin modules with ESD discharge options to meet the needs of most unique and demanding applications, such as telecommunication central office switches and routers, as well as midrange and high-end computers and servers.
