Relay ensures X-by-wire system safety
The SPR Star Point relay is specially designed for disconnecting electric power steering or X-by-wire motor applications in the event of a short circuit or malfunction.
Specially designed for disconnecting electric power steering or X-by-wire motor applications, the SPR Star Point relay from Tyco Electronics ensures that in the event of a short circuit or malfunction of the X-by-wire system drivers can fall back on the mechanical steering system As X-by-wire promises to significantly better fuel consumption compared with today's hydraulic power steering systems it is in the interests of both car manufacturers and consumers to have a system that can be implemented safely

Switch to a quieter automotive relay
Ideal for use in the passenger compartment, V23145-A0101-A303 micro silent relays feature a noise level of under 50dB(A), compared with the typical 65dB(A) of a standard relay.
Using fine grain silver-nickel contacts, the SPR relay is capable of switching off peak currents up to 250A and continuous currents up to 60A at 125C.
The three-contact bridge making relay ensures the complete disconnection of the three star-point phases.
It also guarantees symmetric current paths for each phase.
Key design features of the relay are its high contact forces to minimise contact resistance and short current paths to minimise power consumption over the contacts.
SPR is 42V ready for future applications and is specified over -40 to +125C.
The relay is sealed to IP67 against dust and ingress of dirt.
Electrical specifications include a maximum pull-in voltage of 6.2V at 23C, coil resistance of 200ohm and a contact resistance per path for currents over 50A of typically 0.5mohm (1mhm maximum).
Pins are optimised for high-current connection to a leadframe (a PCB version will be also available) and the relay measures 31 x 17 x 17mm.
Rated life time is over 50 cycles when switching off 100A and over a million cycles dry switching. Request a free brochure from Tyco Electronics UK ...
