Expanded beam interconnects take to the
air

A series of expanded beam interconnects delivers high reliability for demanding applications such as aerospace, mission critical signals in aircraft and in-flight entertainment systems.

A series of expanded beam interconnects from Tyco Electronics delivers high reliability for demanding applications such as aerospace, mission critical signals in aircraft and in-flight entertainment systems The connectors are also ideally suited for use in a variety of harsh environments, including military and civil field-deployable communications, oil and gas, marine ship to shore applications, and mobile diagnostic systems

Key technical features of the expanded beam fibre optic interconnection technology include noncontacting fibre mating methods, low sensitivity to thermal and mechanical extremes, sealed and protected fibre ends, modular and portable hermaphroditic inserts and minimised Fresnel effects.

The connectors provide thermal, vibrational and mechanical stability for reliable transfer of optical signals from one fibre to another.

Sealing the fibres behind a glass lens results in good protection against dust, moisture, mud and other contaminants.

Enlargement of the light beam at the separable interface minimises the effects of vibration, dirt and debris.

Expanded beam interconnection technology (both single-mode and multi-mode types) is available in three different sizes of field connectors, Pro Beam, Pro Beam Jr and Pro Beam Mini connectors up to four channels, 38999 series III type connectors in shell size 11 up to four channels and ARINC 600 rectangular connectors.

All expanded-beam connectors feature low random mate insertion loss with typical values of approximately 0.9dB for multimode and 1.0dB for single-mode types. Request a free brochure from Tyco Electronics UK ...
