The new product will be installed on most new applicator purchases or leases, and most other applicators can be field-upgraded.

With a 10-year battery life, the new applicator counter is supplied with many basic functions, and can be used with (separately purchased) software to deliver even more powerful functionality.

The product also has an integral IrDA interface for fast, easy data transmission to a PC.

Designed for use with Tyco's HD-M and HD-I applicator ranges, but compatible and retrofittable to most AMP-style applicators, the new counter features a bright and clear LCD-based unit which shows cycle count, applicator part number, serial number, spare tooling part numbers and "maintenance required" indicator.

These functions are supplied as standard.

However, the product can also be used with PC-based software for a wide range of other functions.

These include the ability to track applicators by serial number, name or location (work centre, building etc), maintenance schedule and history, and the ability to view applicator inventory.

The software also allows information to be transferred easily via the IrDA interface to an appropriate database, where it can be queried or manipulated.

As well as the new counter module, Tyco Electronics also offers a wide range of other offerings which differentiate its applicators from those of other companies.

These include a stripping module, FE service, rental options, terminators and spare tooling.

Applicators are available for all Tyco Electronics terminals and many non-Tyco terminal products.
