French military harness contract for Tyco

Tyco Electronics has received contracts from EADS Systems and Defence Electronics to supply Raychem interconnection systems for all the vehicles in the Regimental Information System (SIR) Programme.

Tyco Electronics has received contracts from EADS Systems and Defence Electronics to supply Raychem interconnection systems for all the vehicles in the Regimental Information System (SIR) Programme that it is building for the French procurement agency (DGA).

To date the French army has placed orders and options for a total of 441 vehicles and an additional 53 kits.

SIR is an advanced communications system developed to increase and manage transmission of data, like digitalised battlefield maps, between battle tanks, helicopters and other weapons systems.

The contracts awarded to Tyco Electronics are valued in excess of Eur 3.5 million and cover the design and supply of finished electrical harnesses, including all the specified connectors.

Tyco Electronics produced the original harness designs and is manufacturing the complete systems, using Raychem custom designed cables, heat-shrinkable moulded shapes and interconnect components, for total system performance.

The electrical harness designs were developed using Raychem HarnWare, Tyco Electronics' proprietary advanced harness design software, and EADS has entered into a licence agreement in which Tyco Electronics will undertake to manage all drawings package updates.
