A new low-profile single-connector microminiature RF interconnect aims to meet the growing demand for direct board-to-board connections.
The increased current capability comes from a triple beam power contact, which increases the cross sectional area of the contact yet maintains the same mating force and contact wipe as the SEC-II signal contacts.
The SEC-II power connector carries up to 25A per contact and is available in a variety of combinations of power and signal contacts combined in a single moulded housing.
"The connectors offer the best benefit in space limited applications or where density approaches 100A per liner inch", comments Mike Blanchfield, Tyco Electronics Global Product Manager for SEC-II product.
The connectors are available with three mounting options: PCB tails for soldering to plated through-holes; compliant press-fit PCB tails; and straddle/surface mount PCB tails for coplanar applications.
The connectors are well suited for traditional voltage regulator module (VRM) applications historically built around the SEC-II.
A 100A straddle mount SEC-II power connector with 20 signals is priced at $3.86 in 1000 piece quantities.
