Tyco Electronic announces its new line of Stax ground shield connectors for connecting ground, power or EMI/RFI shielding in small, portable devices.

The Stax ground shield connector is the first surface-mountable elastomeric connector on the market to use the superior Stax LD elastomeric connector technology of Tyco Electronics.

Providing the necessary shielding to address common specific absorption rate (SAR) concerns in handheld RF devices has been a consistent challenge to designers of mobile phones and other RF based portable devices.

With the new Stax ground shield connector, designers of these products are no longer forced to manage last minute tooling and shield finger modifications after the analysis of SARs levels at products' final design stages.

The Stax ground shield connectors also eliminate the necessity of multiple footprint patterns and differing height-clearance part numbers.

The Stax ground shield connector provides a simple solution to accommodate the market needs of mobile phones and RF based portable devices.

Tyco Electronics Product Manager John Seibert states: "The elastomers are easily sised to height".

"Custom versions can be sampled to allow designers to optimise the height for more specific board-to-shield spacings".

"All Stax ground shield connector variants use the same base and board footprint for a consistent, simplistic solution".

All Stax elastomeric connectors conform to the typical shielding surface curvature of stylised portable RF devices.

Unlike conventional metal shield fingers, the Stax ground shield connectors provide a solid footprint against nonplanar shielding surfaces.
