HD 1.25mm termini are a physical contact method of connecting high-density low-cost fibre-optic connectors.

The HD 1.25mm optical termination method (terminus) from Tyco Electronics is well suited for a range of aerospace and defence applications where a common terminus for all types of connections is required HD 1.25mm termini are a physical contact method of connecting high-density low-cost fibre-optic connectors

HD 1.25mm termini are simple, yet strong while utilising a compact design.

The combination of simplicity, strength and small geometries compare well with traditional MIL-T-29504 termini.

For example, with the HD 1.25mm termini, a single terminus design can be used for all connectors.

On the other hand, other methods may require several terminus designs, which typically increase complexity and cost.

Additionally, as a pull-resistant design is used, no strain relief is required on the backshell, which further simplifies assembly.

Also, a genderless contact is used which allows the use of the same contact on both connector halves; again, enhancing the product's simplicity and ease of use.

Other design attributes such as compatibility with multimode and single-mode fibres make HD 1.25mm termini useful in a wider range of applications than other methods.

Further, standard 1.25mm ferrules and sleeves along with LC type connector polishing add to ease of installation.

HD 1.25mm termini can be used in a number of connector shell styles including: sise 8 quadrax cavity reducer, ARINC 600, LC adapter, MIL-C-38999 and general purpose rectangular.

Mean insertion loss (method B) for HD 1.25mm terminus is 0.10dB for single mode and 0.07dB for multimode.
