Card edge connector meets PCI Express needs
Tyco Electronics has designed a 1mm centreline card edge connector to meet the high performance point-to-point full duplex I/O bus standard for PCI Express architecture.
In comparison testing, the Z1 power connector outperforms alternative screw-machined contacts.
The Z1 power connector combines high conductivity materials with precision formed selectively plated contacts to produce high current carrying capability while minimising costs.
The connector uses design and manufacturing technologies common to many Tyco Electronics' new power and backplane connectors.
The connector can be installed into circuit boards using any of the popular platings (tin, silver, tin/lead etc) without changes made to the plated through hole sizes.
"This approach provides compatibility with our customers' printed circuit board processing and application environments, and high reliability of the press-fit terminations", comments Mike Blanchfield, Global Product Manager, Tyco Electronics Power Connectors.
The connector satisfies the higher-density power levels of future equipment as defined in the AdvancedTCA Standard.
The connector also offers four levels of sequencing, which includes a first-mate power/ground pin and a last-mate enable/signal pin, and is rated for 250 durability cycles.
The backplane connector meets international safety standards for "touch-safe" applications.
Both the backplane and linecard connectors are fully intermateable and interchangeable with the existing power connector defined in the PICMG 3.0 Standard.
Pricing is US $7.63 and $10.38 each for the backplane connector and linecard connector, respectively, in 500-piece quantities.
