Tyco Electronics has a new Micro-USB connector with the smallest footprint available in USB interconnects.

This miniature connector is smaller than the conventional Mini-USB connector and enables portable device makers to further miniaturise real estate in devices such as mobile phones, MP3 players, GPS navigation systems, digital cameras and digital video cameras.

Tyco Electronics' Micro-USB connector meets the USB Implementers Forum specification finalised in January 2007, which supports the current USB On-The-Go supplement allowing communication between portable devices without going through a host.

Tyco Electronics' Micro-USB interconnect product includes a unique design which exceeds the standard durability specification.

The connector boasts a design feature that helps to prevent wire pinching.

The latch mechanism helps prevent accidentally pulling out the plug.

Other features include a minimum extraction force of 8N, after its rated 10,000 mating cycles, RoHS compliance, and receptacle profiles on the circuit board as small as 2.4mm.

Receptacles and cable assemblies that support USB On-The-Go are also offered.
