Everything you ever wanted to know about
DAQ
White paper on analogue inputs is the first in a three-part series telling all about data acquisition.
United Electronic Industries (UEI) has published the first in a three-part series of white papers called "Everything you ever wanted to know about data acquisition" Although the primary focus of this first white paper in the series is analogue inputs, the paper explains the overall concept of data acquisition (or DAQ) in general, and takes the time to demystify the use of the term as an industry buzzword, before delving into the more technical aspects of, and considerations for, analogue input systems

Instrumentation modules fit cPCI or PXI slots
UEI's PowerDAQ extensions for instrumentation modules work in CompactPCI or PXI slots; C-size chassis and CPU card implement the full PXI spec.
The paper covers popular system types, A/D conversion, input channel configuration, simultaneous sampling, accuracy specifications, sample rate, input range etc.
The paper goes on to cover temperature measurements as well as strain ( and stress) measurements in detail.
Part one of "Everything you ever wanted to know about data acquisition" is available as a free download from the UEI website.
