Universal Instruments has extended the capabilities and expertise of its Suzhou, China, technology laboratory by appointing Dr Kon M Lin as process support manager.
Dr Lin, originally from China near Suzhou, who holds a PhD from Cornell University in the USA and has also studied in Taiwan, will co-ordinate work on all Asian customer requirements between the two Universal laboratories, at Suzhou and Binghamton.
He will also drive future development of the Suzhou technology laboratory.
Dr Lin is an established research expert, and has worked at AT and T/Lucent for over 20 years including a position at the company's Bell Laboratories division, which pioneered today's electronic industry by inventing the transistor.
Welcoming Dr Lin to his new position, Richard Boulanger of Universal Instruments' SMT Laboratory said: "I am very pleased that Dr Lin has agreed to join Universal Instruments as we continue to invest in building up the Suzhou laboratory as part of our worldwide customer-focused research capability.
Dr Lin's experience and knowledge will ensure efficient and effective growth as we seek new techniques that will answer the issues our customers face both now and in the future".
Dr Lin will report directly to Boulanger, and will work closely with Stanley Chen at Suzhou, who will continue to interface directly with customers requiring laboratory services.
He will also work closely with George Westby and Peter Borgesen at Binghamton, where he will also have a secondary office.
