Universal Instruments has opened a direct sales and support office in Brazil to increase support for its growing customer base in the region.

Universal Instruments has opened a direct sales and support office in Brazil to increase support for its growing customer base in the region Antonio Maia has joined Universal as Regional Manager, and will lead the team working from the new office, located in Sao Paolo

Welcoming Maia to Universal, Mark Ragard, Director, Americas Area Operations, said: "The new office will bring Universal closer to customers, and allow us to service the opportunities now unfolding in South America".

"I would like to personally welcome Antonio to the team".

"With his extensive experience of the high-tech sector in Brazil, and his leadership qualities, he is ideally equipped to support our existing customer base and grow Universal's business in South America".

Maia will report to Carlos Takahashi, Director, Latin American Operations at Dover Corp, Universal's parent company.

His first priority will be to establish Universal Instruments as a legal and operational division of Dover for Brazil.

He will provide leadership to the Universal direct field engineering team, comprising Quintin Armstrong and Rogerio Marques, and will also work closely with Universal's appointed representatives in the region.

Maia commented: "This is an exciting opportunity for me to lead Universal's growth in Brazil, as the company establishes a local office to provide customer support for equipment sales, service, spare parts and training, sold directly by Universal or through our assigned representatives in Brazil".

"I am looking forward to growing the business aggressively as activity in Latin America continues on an upward trend".

His experience prior to joining Universal includes Lucent Technologies Networking Systems in Brazil, where he worked as a Commercial Manager and Executive Account Manager, Tyco Electronics and Bosch Flexible Automation, where he held positions of Business Development Manager, Sales Engineer and Marketing Manager.

Maia received his degree in business administration from the Universidade de Sao Paulo and a mechanical engineering degree from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.
