Sonus Networks has selected Ulticom Signalware Gateway as the underlying technology for the evolution of its SGX product.

Sonus Networks, a leading supplier of service provider voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, has agreed to extend its partnership with Ulticom The company has selected Ulticom Signalware Gateway as the underlying technology for the evolution of its SGX product

Sonus is the pre-eminent provider of VoIP and multimedia infrastructure solutions for today's next-generation communications networks, and has deployed Ulticom Signalware SS7 technology as part of its SGX product for several years.

The contract extension continues the two companies' long-standing partnership by adding the standards-based SS7 over IP signalling capabilities of Ulticom Signalware Gateway, to interconnect existing SS7 systems with the IP-based services offered by Sonus.

Signalware Gateway is an enabling component built on Ulticom's field-proven SS7 and Sigtran products.

It provides the capability to transport SS7 traffic over IP networks using protocols defined by the IETF, including SCTP, M2PA, M3UA, and SUA.

Unlike proprietary solutions, Signalware Gateway is based on open standards so it can be deployed on several hardware platforms and operating systems.

Signalware Gateway also serves as the foundation for Ulticom's new nSignia product, a complete, carrier-grade signalling infrastructure solution, providing plug and play SS7 and IP transport layer connectivity for communication applications.

"By leveraging Signalware's carrier-class capabilities such as fault resilience, scalability, interoperability, and maintainability, we are able to deploy the solutions our customers demand more quickly", said Vikram Saksena, Chief Architect, Sonus Networks.

"We're pleased to continue our successful relationship with Ulticom to enable us to deliver new and innovative solutions to the marketplace".

"With the rapid growth in the VoIP market, carrier-grade performance and quality become primary differentiators for service providers", said Osman Duman, Senior Vice President and CMO at Ulticom.

"Service providers around the globe rely on Sonus Networks-based infrastructure to deliver their next-generation VoIP and multimedia services to help them successfully exploit the benefits of IP technologies".
