Speedy route to customised supplies
Ultimate Renaissance says its Astec MVP-series configurable power architecture enables designers to achieve a custom power supply up to 1.2kW at very short notice.
Ultimate Renaissance says its Astec MVP-series configurable power architecture enables designers to achieve a custom power supply up to 1.2kW at very short notice.
This is important in projects having unusual or distinctive power requirements, and particularly where production is triggered at short notice and must ramp quickly to meet demand.
UR offers technical assistance with selection, as well as a design-and-build service from its MVP configuration facility in the UK.
Distributor facilities include fast turnaround - especially for sample orders which can be delivered in 24 hours - buffer stocking, scheduling, kanban and faxban.
Configuring an MVP-series power supply begins by selecting a case rated to meet specified output requirements.
Cases for 400 and 600W applications have five slots for selected DC/DC convertor modules.
Further cases, rated to 800 and 1200W, have six and seven slots, respectively.
A built-in single-phase boost convertor provides a 380V DC input rail to the convertor array, allowing MVP-series units to operate from any local mains supply from 85 to 264V AC, without derating.
There is also EMI filtering to level B, and thermal management including field replaceable fans.
All MVP cases include a flyback convertor for internal housekeeping, clock sync signal, user-accessible input power good signal, and a 5V DC 1A supervisory output.
Bulk storage capacitors are also built in.
Further optional features include rear air exhaust, a global output enable facility, low audible noise fans.
A low leakage input version is also available for Medical applications.
DC/DC convertor modules are then selected to meet the requirements for each individual output.
Up to 10 outputs may be provided delivering any output combination from 2 to 60V.
Outputs may be paralleled, and the designer also has the option of building N+1 redundancy.
Applications include manufacturing machinery, wafer fab equipment, road signage, video walls or professional A/V, broadcast equipment, ruggedised rack systems and many more products that cannot be satisfied by a standard, off the shelf power supply.
The MVP-series eliminates the time overhead and design risk associated with in-house development, but its modular design also enables a very fast turnaround.
Moreover, all MVP-series units are already compliant with major safety and interference standards including UL, CSA, IEC, VDE, and CE, and carry important industry-specific approvals including BABT.
