More functions for ESL design suite

A Vast Systems Technology product story

The latest release of Comet adds substantial new functionality to Vast's fifth generation of electronic system level (ESL) tools.

The latest release of Comet adds substantial new functionality to Vast's fifth generation of electronic system level (ESL) tools.

Comet is Vast's electronic system level environment for the concurrent design and development of the hardware, software, mechanical and DSP subsystems of complex SoCs and embedded systems.

With Comet, developers create virtual system prototypes in software working from high-level specifications as early as the architectural phase.

The virtual system prototype is used for architecture design and analysis.

Comet allows designers to measure and visualise the quantitative impact of architectural decisions to help select the best architecture, thus enabling an architecture-driven design methodology.

The virtual system prototype becomes the golden reference model for the concurrent development of hardware and software.

Comet cosimulates with leading industry simulators, and Comets open architecture is designed to easily integrate into an existing tools flow.

New in Comet 5.7 are: support for Vast's fastest models, built with the company's new generation of simulation technology plus integration and cosimulation with previous generations of Vast models; support for SystemC models, stand-alone and integrated into full platforms; enhanced GUI interface and configuration capabilities in Vast's popular Metrix tool, which captures data from the virtual system prototype, performs quantitative assessments of behaviour and performance, and charts the results; an enhanced Comet Platform Constructor Tool with capabilities for rapidly constructing and automatically generating documentation for virtual system prototypes; and the newly announced tool, Peripheral Device Builder, which enables users to quickly develop peripheral devices such as interrupt controllers, DMA engines, timers, clocks and memory controllers and operates as plug-in to the Comet 5.7 environment.

"The new features and functions in Comet 5.7 were driven by our key users", commented Alain Labat, Vast's CEO.

"We have the fastest simulation and most advanced modelling methodology available on the market today".

"We are putting great emphasis on making our tools increasingly easy to use and rich in their ability to provide unparalleled visibility for designing and optimising architectures, for concurrently developing hardware and software, and for verifying integrated systems".

Comet 5.7 is currently being used by early adopters and will be available for general release on 31st March 2005, with pricing starting at $30,000, one year, node locked, time based licence (TBL).
