Small-footprint board reduces power drain
The latest addition to the line of PC/104-Plus embedded boards from VersaLogic Corp is the Puma, which features a highly reliable design and very low power consumption.
The package is based on the popular Debian Linux OS, which has been configured for easy installation and support of the Python's hardware features.
With the new BSP install CD, hardware setup is streamlined by eliminating the need for OS configuration and driver installation by the system developer.
The package provides support for basic functions including Ethernet, audio, video, USB ports and serial ports.
The Debian Linux OS can be used during system development to explore the capabilities of the Python, or it can be used as the base OS in the target system.
The Python features fanless operation, very low power draw (5W), and is RoHS compatible.
Target markets include medical, avionics, and security/homeland defence.
With the use of quick-start BSPs, embedded engineers are able to move through the development stage faster and obtain an advantage over the competition.
"This package is intended to make Linux installation on the Python as easy, or easier, than other commercial operating systems", says Gary Harris, VP of Engineering at VersaLogic.
VersaLogic offers BSP support for many of their embedded computer models and various operating systems, including VxWorks, Debian/Fedora Linux, and Windows CE/Xpe.
The new BSP is available in CD format for a nominal charge.
