Small-footprint board reduces power drain
The latest addition to the line of PC/104-Plus embedded boards from VersaLogic Corp is the Puma, which features a highly reliable design and very low power consumption.
Fanless operation means there are no moving parts, and the SBC also offers soldered-on system memory and extended temperature operation from -40 to +85C.
The Cougar suits demanding military, aerospace, medical and industrial applications.
Its AMD LX 800 processor delivers Celeron 800MHz-equivalent performance while drawing less than 5W of power.
Standard onboard features include 256Mbyte soldered-on SDRAM, dual 10/100 Ethernet, four USB 2.0 ports, IDE interface and three COM ports.
A CompactFlash socket provides reliable, high-capacity onboard storage, with no moving parts.
Flexible options for keyboard, mouse, external storage and other devices are provided via USB ports.
The board includes integrated SVGA and LVDS flat-panel support with MMX and 3DNow.
for video-intensive applications.
The PC/104-Plus interface supports both ISA and PCI add-on modules.
Standard pass-through connectors allow the board to be used either above or below other PC/104 modules.
It may also be used as a CPU module for a larger system by plugging it into a proprietary base board that includes specific user I/O circuitry.
Gary Harris, VersaLogic's Vice President of Engineering, noted that, "The Cougar is a feature-rich, mid-performance PC/104-Plus platform that complements our existing product family".
As with other VersaLogic embedded computer boards, the Cougar features a General Software Embedded BIOS with OEM enhancements.
The field-reprogrammable BIOS supports custom defaults and the addition of firmbase security applications, remote booting and other pre-OS software functions.
The Cougar is compatible with operating systems including Windows CE/XP/XPe, QNX, VxWorks and Linux.
It is fully RoHS-compliant.
Customisation is available, even in low OEM quantities.
Options include conformal coating, BIOS customisations, revision locks, custom labeling, high-G shock and vibration treatment, as well as custom testing and screening.
