Intermediate bus quarter-bricks reach
600W
Vicor has released the first members of a new family of 48V input intermediate bus convertor modules (IBCs).
Vicor has released the first members of a new family of 48V input intermediate bus convertor modules (IBCs) Offered in standard quarter-brick format and operating from a 38-55V DC input, the IBC family consists of nine fixed-ratio standard models with nominal outputs from 3 to 48V DC (3, 4, 6, 8, 9.6, 12, 16, 24 and 48V) delivering up to 100A or 600W

IBCs incorporate VI chip bus convertors (BCMs) into the quarter-brick standard as "VICs-in-a-brick".
This doubles the power capability of older technology IBCs for intermediate bus architecture applications.
Specifically, these pin-compatible, industry-standard quarter bricks deploy either a single BCM, rated up to 300W, or two parallel BCMs, capable of 600W.
Output current is limited by the pins of the quarter-brick to 50 or 100A, depending on the pinout configuration.
Efficiency of the IBCs ranges from 95% at 3V to better than 97% at 48V.
Full power is available with only 200 litre/min, 55C air without a heatsink.
The BCMs have exceptional speed and transient performance, responding to 100% step load changes in less than 1ms - 20 times faster than the fastest competitive brick.
The high efficiency and superior transient performance result from the use of proprietary sine amplitude convertor (SAC) technology, which provides zero-current and zero-voltage switching at a fixed, multimegahertz switching frequency.
SACs also provide exceptionally low input and output noise, significantly reducing or even eliminating costly and bulky filters.
VIC-in-a-brick intermediate bus convertors are priced as low as 11c/W in OEM quantities.
Sample quantities of the 3V at 50/100A, 9.6V at 240/480W, 12V at 200/400W and 48V at 300/600W models are available now.
