power-over-Ethernet uses
The B048K480T30 is the newest member of the Vicor VI Chip bus convertor module family, providing 2250V DC primary-to-secondary isolation with a unity transformation ratio over a 38-55V DC input range.
The B048K480T30 is the newest member of the Vicor VI Chip bus convertor module (BCM) family, providing 2250V DC primary-to-secondary isolation with a unity transformation ratio over the input range of 38-55V DC Rated for 300W and with an efficiency of 97%, this BCM sets new industry standards for power density and performance in power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and voice-over-IP (VoIP) applications and other applications requiring isolation from a 48V DC source

This VI Chip sets a new record for power density at 71W/cm3 - breaking through the 1000W/in3 barrier and eclipsing the best bricks which are less than 200W/in3.
It may be surface mounted into the PCB with a profile as low as 4mm, for an effective power density of 107W/cm3, or on the board with an overall height of 6mm, for a power density of 67W/cm3.
The VI Chip power package is available with BGA or J-leads and is fully compatible with standard surface mount manufacturing processes.
The VI Chip's high efficiency and thermally adept package enable the full 300W capability to be realised at 65C, 300 litre/min airflow without a heatsink.
With a 6mm-high integral pin fin heatsink, full load is available at 75C, 200 litre/min.
Its extremely fast response time and very low noise greatly reduces - or even eliminates - the need for bulk capacitance and other filtering components, resulting in additional savings in board area, materials, and total system cost.
The B048K480T30 BCM is priced at less than 11c/W in OEM quantities.
