Cables now assembled to exact lengths

An Emerson Network Power - Vitelec Electronics product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Jan 23, 2002

Vitelec Electronics has made a significant enhancement to its established high-performance microwave cable-assembly service.

Vitelec Electronics has made a significant enhancement to its established high-performance microwave cable-assembly service.

Although the company is already known for its standard products - marketed under its Vitelec Johnson brand - as well as its ability to provide a custom service, Vitelec has now become one of the very few European companies able to deliver assemblies to an exact specified length.

Typically, suppliers will round a specification up or down to the nearest standard length.

The development, which will be welcomed by a market which is looking for increasingly precise bespoke microwave solutions, will further consolidate Vitelec's reputation as one of the industry's leading specialist suppliers of highly cost-effective, very low lead-time cable assemblies.

Furthermore, the company's microwave cable assemblies - which it brands as Gigaflex - are among the most highly specified available, offering excellent performance characteristics at frequencies from DC to 18GHz.

"Microwave and instrumentation equipment OEMs are increasingly looking to outsource functions such as cable assembly", commented Peter Walmsley, Sales and Marketing Director of Vitelec, "but they are also demanding ever higher performance solutions, tailored precisely to their needs.

As a recognised leader in the RF connector market, with advanced technology and a superb service resource, we are in a unique position to offer a high-quality, local cable assembly solution to the UK market".

Gigaflex cable assemblies offer excellent performance at frequencies up to 18GHz.

With a double-screened construction, the product provides the qualities of a semirigid cable while retaining much of the physical characteristics of a flexible cable.

Available with standard SMA, N-type and TNC termination, the products feature identification sleeves which carry individual serial numbers linked to a performance chart.

Performance plots for the cable assemblies are available to customers, providing information on insertion loss and return loss (both against frequency).

Gigaflex is supplied with brass tubing and double heatshrink strain relief to prevent cable damage and performance degradation.
