High-end 75ohm connectors handle digital signals
A new range of high-end 75ohm connectors has been designed to deliver extremely high levels of performance and efficiency for digital signal transmission.
A new range of high-end 75ohm connectors, designed to deliver extremely high levels of performance and efficiency for digital signal transmission, has been introduced by Vitelec Electronics.
The connectors will be of interest for a wide range of installations including digital video, TV broadcast, telephony instrumentation, CATV transmitter, computer networking, satellite receiver, test, medical and imaging equipment.
Given the high datarates in digital applications, it is critical that a bandwidth capacity that uses a high frequency signal - typically 2.25MHz - is available.
At these high frequencies, the system installer needs to consider such issues as return loss, insertion loss, VSWR (voltage standing wave ratio), skin effect and electromagnetic field effects.
The coax connectors traditionally used for analogue systems are not designed to take account of these issues, and if used in high-rate digital systems will put the signal integrity at risk.
To fulfil these requirements, Vitelec Electronics has introduced a range of high-end 75ohm BNC connectors designed to meet the specific demands of digital technology.
Including plugs for the most commonly used cables, adapters and precision crimp tooling, the range features a controlled 75ohm impedance for high-speed signals, captivated contacts, crimp/crimp assembly, high-performance materials, and intermatability with existing standard 50ohm BNCs already present within in a system.
With a minimum insulation resistance of 5Gohm, the range delivers a maximum centre contact resistance of 4mohm and a maximum outer contact resistance of 3.55mohm, in operating temperatures between -55 and +85C.
