Nonmagnetic connectors are attractive
for MRI
Three ranges of RF coaxial connectors, designed to meet the stringent limits of image resolution and magnetic field distortion in a magnetic resonance environment, are now available from Vitelec.
Three ranges of RF coaxial connectors, designed to meet the stringent limits of image resolution and magnetic field distortion in a magnetic resonance (MR) environment, are now available from Vitelec Electronics They are manufactured by Vitelec's sister company, Johnson Components which enjoys an enviable reputation for producing high-quality, competitively priced subminiature and microminiature RF connectors

SMT end-launch threaded coaxial connectors
Vitelec has released a new range of 50ohm end-launch surface-mount SMA connectors.
For many years Johnson Components has worked closely with MRI RF coil manufacturers to provide custom nonmagnetic connectors and the wealth of knowledge and experience gained has been used to produce these standard catalogue versions of nonmagnetic SMA, SMB and MCX connectors.
A supporting brochure dedicated to "Nonmagnetic RF coaxial connectors" and providing full product specifications is available on request from Vitelec Electronics.
Peter Walmsley, Sales and Marketing Director of Vitelec Electronics, said: "This represents an important addition to our range of Johnson high performance connectors and provides a competitively priced solution to a gap in the market place.

Cables now assembled to exact lengths
Vitelec Electronics has made a significant enhancement to its established high-performance microwave cable-assembly service.
We fully expect these nonmagnetic versions of SMA, SMB and MCX connectors to find wide acceptance with customers involved in medical and other uses of MR equipment".
Because of the fragmented nature of much of the industry, he went on to explain that the products will also be suited to being made available through Vitelec's network of distribution partners.
The connectors' electrical performance has been designed to exceed the frequency requirements of the transmit/receive RF coils used in medical and other MR equipment.
The copper alloys of the body and contact parts are specified to provide unity permeability and control magnetic susceptibility and gold finishes are altered to eliminate magnetic barrier layers and provide excellent corrosion resistance and wear characteristics.
Nonmagnetic SMA, SMB and MCX are available in straight and right-angle cable crimp plugs, and straight (vertical) and right-angle PCB jack versions.
In addition, the SMA and MCX are also available in height saving PCB end launch configurations.
All versions have a characteristic impedance of 50ohm with frequency ranges of: SMA plugs - DC to 12.4GHz; SMA PCB jacks - DC to 18.0GHz; SMB - DC to 4GHz; and MCX - DC to 6GHz.
The plug versions are available for the following single and double screened (DS) cables types: SMA - RG316/u, RG188, RG174, RG316DS, RG188DS, RG58/u and RG141; SMB - RG316/u, RG188, RG174, RG179, RG187, RG316DS, RG188DS, RG179DS and RG187DS; MCX - RG316/u, RG188, RG174, RG316DS and RG188DS.
