Novel heat-spreader improves convection cooling of DDR2 SODIMMs, SO-RDIMMs and SO-CDIMMs.

Virtium Technology has developed a novel heat-spreader for DDR2 SODIMMs, SO-RDIMMs and SO-CDIMMs to improve convection cooling Virtium SODIMM memory modules with heat-spreader now add heatsink capability to remove heat more effectively than conventional air-cooled SODIMMs

Virtium's heat-spreader for SODIMMs is available for all SODIMM product variants using mainstream 512Mbit and 1Gbit devices, making it one of the industry's most cost-effective solutions for embedded applications.

"With these new heat-spreaders, Virtium directly addresses an industry-wide problem to control excessive, or less than optimal, operating temperatures in demanding embedded environments", says Phan Hoang, Director of Research and Development, Virtium Technology.

"This approach to heat removal offers multiple benefits including better thermal performance and improved reliability in adverse thermal environments with fewer single bit errors".

Virtium's heatsink-equipped modules are intended for use in extended temperature ranges - solving thermal issues critical to system performance - and are ideal as AdvancedTCA memory (ATCA memory), AdvancedMC memory, MicroTCA memory, PicoTCA memory and AMC memory for blade applications and PICMG SBCs.
