VME-based recorder acquires at top speed

The MDR-620 is the first MIDAS data recorder product to break the 200Mbyte/s speed barrier in a standard single-board recorder.

Vmetro has released a new generation MDR (MIDAS data recorder) product - the first ever to break the 200Mbyte/s speed barrier in a standard single-board recorder MDR is a family of ready-to-run COTS recorders for FPDP, FPDP II and 2.4Gbit/s Serial FPDP intended for the embedded market and aimed at high-performance data acquisition applications such as radar, sonar, signal intelligence, image capture, wafer inspection and medical tomography

The fully preprogrammed MDR is designed for easy integration, eliminating costly development man-hours.

The MDR-620 is delivered as a single VME card using Fibre Channel JBOD and RAID systems as storage devices.

The software includes the essential striping capability necessary to work with low-cost JBODs, distributing the data through an advanced buffering system to several disks concurrently in order to sustain the high total transfer rate.

The advanced disk grouping system provides extreme flexibility and scalability in the storage system where any set of disks in a Fibre Channel SAN (storage area network) can be virtualised as a single storage unit.

Each storage device (disk group) contains a high performance recording table optimised for fast, predictable, real-time access and allowing multiple terabytes of data acquisition storage to be easily managed from host workstations.

All MDR models are supported by Windows and Solaris MDR host software that allow workstation users to upload, analyse, archive, and/or download recorded or simulated sensor data files.

The MDR-620 is Vmetro's latest and fastest addition to the PowerMIDAS data recorder product family with a performance range from 80Mbyte/s to the new 240Mbyte/s and prices that start at $23,000.

The new model will start shipping in July 2003 and is available in both commercial and rugged versions. Request a free brochure from Vmetro ...
