Carrier solves PCI-X bus anaysis dilemma

The Vanguard PCI-X Single Slot Carrier allows PCI-X bus systems to be tested at 133MHz without violating the stringent loading restrictions imposed by the PCI-X specification.

The Vanguard PCI-X Single Slot Carrier allows PCI-X bus systems to be tested at 133MHz without violating the stringent loading restrictions imposed by the PCI-X specification These restrictions typically mean that only a single slot is supported in 133MHz systems, which previously made it impossible to install a bus analyser while the device under test (DUT) was present

The single slot carrier is an easy to use add-on module for the Vanguard bus analyser, and provides for the insertion of the DUT into a PCI-X connector on the single slot carrier itself, thus isolating the PCI-X bus on the motherboard from the bus where the DUT and analysis are located by way of a PCI-X to PCI-X bridge.

The card is fully compliant with both PCI and PCI-X specifications.

"The single slot carrier offers Vmetro customers a powerful tool for diagnosing and debugging 133MHz PCI-X designs", said Thomas Nygaard, Chief Technology Officer for Vmetro.

"The ability to capture accurate diagnostics data without concern for bus speed or loading constraints makes the engineer's job much easier".

"Loading concerns can make the debug of 133MHz PCI-X systems particularly difficult", said Tom Shanley, President of Mindshare and author of PCI-X System Architecture.

"Vmetro's release of an isolated single slot carrier has the potential to remove that difficulty.

I applaud Vmetro's efforts".
