Now, Warth International have developed a viable, low cost alternative, with all the advantages of standard elastomers, coupled with several exceptional features that can considerably reduce the workload associated with fitting and sealing the units.
Warth EmiSeal is a combination of fully cured silicone gel encasing a knitted monel wire mesh, and whilst the monel lattice provides better shielding performance than any elastomer, the true advantage of EmiSeal is its ability to wet and seal the surface to which it is applied.
This surface wetting gives an effective seal against the environment enabling designers to meet IP and similar specifications with a single gasket.
Good protection will also be made against more aggressive corrosive environments such as green seas for example.
A further benefit is that EmiSeal can 'self-heal' when cut ends are pressed together in a groove.This self-healing eliminates the need to use addition joining materials or adhesives when forming 'O' rings or a continuous gasket, significantly simplifying the construction of the unit.
The join formed becomes as effective as any other part of the gasket, holding an environmental seal equivalent to IP65.
The gel-like structure ensures a very soft compliant material that requires less closure force than typical gasket elastomers and also has the capability to wet and seal the surface to which it is applied.
This surface wetting gives an additional seal against water ingress, and still provides sufficient electrical contact for it to be used in most grounding applications as well as the more traditional shielding functions.
EmiSeal is available with core sizes from 2mm up to 7mm in diameter, and is flame retardant, with a UL94HB rating.
It has a continuous operating temperature range of -40C to +125C.
