WBC is authorised to sell the complete offering of TouchChip and TouchStrip silicon fingerprint area and strip sensors, companion processors, USB readers, embedded biometric subsystems, development kits, and application software.
Under the agreement, which is effective immediately, WBC will provide sales and technical services to support Upek's full line of biometric products in all European countries.
WBC, a specialist semiconductor distributor within Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA, stressed that the deal goes far beyond traditional distribution agreements.
"The market for biometric products and solutions is exploding at present", says WBC President Klaus Mueller, "but integrating the semiconductor products into systems and subsystems calls for highly specialised skills and knowledge".
"We will be offering these technical services to customers as part of a total package so that they can accelerate the time to market and share in the current market opportunities".
Mueller added: "WBC is keen to act as a technology and innovation incubator, helping manufacturers and customers achieve quick adoption of new technologies".
"It's an approach we introduced with our 'high tech garden' concept, bringing together a selection of innovative, high-tech companies with unique semiconductor technologies".
