Memory and storage applications in focus

NVM Workshop to precede the 2nd International Conference on Memory Technology and Design in France.

Web-Feet Research will host its 2007 Nonvolatile Memory (NVM) Workshop on Monday 7th May in the Provencal village of Giens on Mediterranean coast of France.

The full-day NVM Workshop is colocated with the 2nd International Conference on Memory Technology and Design (ICMTD) and precedes this 3-day memory conference.

The NVM Workshop titled "Price elasticity - enabling new memory and storage applications" will examine technology, markets and trends for Flash memories and removable storage.

One key theme will be the assessment of storage technologies that compete for the fast-growing mobile market segment and the pending rise of Flash-based computing.

Cellphone architectures are changing rapidly needing increasingly more integrated NAND/storage along with fast executable NOR/memory.

Also, as Flash-based computing becomes an economic reality for SSDs this year, the NAND architectures will have to undergo a fundamental technological change to improve its performance and endurance to satisfy this market.

The workshop will discuss technologies that provide possible solutions to enhance NAND/storage performance and endurance for SSD computing and high-speed mobile storage.

As Alan Niebel, CEO of Web-Feet Research notes: "In spite of the heavy price declines in Q1, we believe the Flash market will recover and achieve a supply-demand balance in 2H of 2007".

"Although overall 2007 revenues at $21.8 billion may be less than the $23.5 billion in 2006, we see the short term basis for growth will be driven by new applications in the consumer, broadband and mobility segments, whilst we clearly see new applications, geographic markets and macroeconomics ensuring longer-term growth".

The cost for participation at the NVM Workshop is US $995 (Eur 765) for early registration before 6th April 2007, after which it is $1295 (Eur 995).

This covers single accommodation for the Sunday night at the conference venue in Giens/France and the full Monday NVM Workshop, including a 200-plus-page handout.

A full agenda of the NVM workshop is available from the Web-Feet Research website.
