Wind River tops embedded development market

In a recent worldwide market analysis, Gartner Dataquest has named Wind River the leading embedded software development tools vendor by sales in the world and Europe.
In its "2000 worldwide embedded software tools marker share" report Gartner Dataquest estimated the total market size for embedded software at $866 million in 2000, up 37% from $623 million in 1999.
Wind River accounted for more than 30% of the market, more than double the market share of its closest competitor.
For the report, Gartner Dataquest's design and engineering group looked into RTOS, compilers, debuggers, simulators, system-level tools, integrated development environments (IDEs) and in-circuit emulators (ICEs).
According to Gartner Dataquest, the top five vendors worldwide for embedded software development tools in 2000 were: Wind River (31.2%); Rational Software (15.3%); Palm Computing (5.1%); Green Hills Software (4.3%); and Applied Microsystems (3.5%).
Wind River embedded development tools accounted for 31.2% of the global market in 2000 and 20.2% of the European market in 2000 according to Gartner Dataquest estimates.
Wind River is the leading tools developer vendor across all platforms according to Gartner Dataquest.
Wind River offers an extensive line of "stand-alone" development tools ranging from boot loaders to simulators and from debuggers to emulators that are integrated with its real time operating system products.
Many of its stand alone tools are also widely used with in-house-proprietary and third-party operating systems.
"Gartner Dataquest's market analysis confirms our position as the leading embedded software tools vendor.
But this is only part of the story", said Andi Pabinger, EMEA managing director at Wind River.
"Wind River is working hard to deliver vertical end-to-end solutions for a wide range of embedded applications.
Our ultimate goal is accelerating time to market for creators of embedded smart devices".
