The latest version of the Diab C/C++ compiler includes significant enhancements and optimisations for specific microprocessor architectures including PowerPC, Intel XScale and MIPS.

The latest version of the Wind River Diab C/C++ compiler includes several significant product enhancements and optimisations for specific microprocessor architectures including PowerPC, Intel XScale and MIPS.

Embedded developers in a wide variety of markets including aerospace and defence, automotive and network infrastructure are able to use the Diab C/C++ compiler suite to create exceptionally fast compact code for their embedded applications.

As a core development tool, the Diab C/C++ compiler suite allows software developers to create an executable program by taking application code written in a high-level language such as C or C++ and converting it into machine language that runs on the target application.

Enhancements built into Wind River's Diab 5.0 C/C++ compiler suite enable original equipment manufacturers to maximise their silicon investments by generating faster and more efficient code.

As a result, software engineers can fit complex applications into their products using fewer microprocessor and memory resources.

Further, they can reduce development time, risk and cost by leveraging Diab's adherence to compatibility with software industry standards.

"We are very pleased that Wind River continues to improve the Diab compiler-a key development tool used by many of our customers", said Chuck Corley, director of applications engineering for Motorola's Computing Platform Division.

"By providing optimisations for our latest high performance processors, Diab enables our customers to get the most out of their code running on Motorola's PowerPC ISA-based processors, including our powerful MPC7455".

As part of Wind River's strategy to enable users of its Tornado II integrated development environment and VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS) to leverage the advanced capabilities of the Diab compiler, Diab 5.0 has been fully integrated with the next major release of the Tornado II/VxWorks development platform.

In addition, the Diab compiler suite is part of Wind River's "stand-alone" class of development tools, and can be used regardless of the customer's RTOS usage.

The Diab 5.0 C/C++ compiler suite supports PowerPC, MIPS, Motorola 68K and ColdFire, ARM, Intel Xscale/StrongARM, M•CORE, Hitachi SH, Mitsubishi M32R, SPARC, SPARClite processor families.

Host support includes Windows 95/98/NT/Win2000, Solaris, HP-UX and Linux host machines.

The Diab 5.0 C/C++ compiler suite is available immediately.

The next release of the Tornado II/VxWorks platform for which Diab 5.0 has been integrated will be available later this summer.
