Wind River Systems has appointed Matthias Stumpf as Marketing Manager for Europe Middle East and Africa.

Wind River Systems has appointed Matthias Stumpf as Marketing Manager for Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Stumpf's main role at Wind River is to generate broader awareness of the company and thereby cement its recognition as the worldwide market leader for embedded software and services.

He will also work to target Wind River's vertical markets for aerospace/defence, industrial, automotive and networking and consumer, creating new synergies to provide innovative marketing solutions and services for a wide range of customers.

Stumpf will also focus on strengthening operational and strategic management practices between the European market with those of Middle East and Africa with the goal of increasing the company's market penetration.

"At Wind River I have the opportunity to position the company in a growing strategic market.

With the new market-specific integrated embedded platforms (IEPs) for vertical markets Wind River has seized a leading technological position in a most dynamic industry", says Stumpf.

"Now the challenge is to extend our leadership and open up the very high availability and reliability of VxWorks and BSD/OS as a part of the Wind River Platforms to make it available to a very broad range of customers".

Stumpf, a 34-year-old information scientist, joins Wind River from QNX Software Systems, where he was initially Technology Analyst and PR Manager for a year, before becoming European Corporate Communications Manager for three years.

In this latter capacity he shaped the strategic Central European activities of the Canadian company.

Stumpf originally began working with embedded technology during his university studies at the University of Hildesheim, Germany, where he established his knowledge and contacts as a technician and was also in charge of a distributor, in what was perceived a futuristic field at that time.
