Platform strategy pays dividends
Wind River Systems has significantly exceeded its stated objective of booking 850 Platform seats in the second quarter of fiscal year 2004.
Wind River Systems has significantly exceeded its stated objective of booking 850 Platform seats in the second quarter of fiscal year 2004.
With more than 2000 Platform seats under subscription exiting the second quarter, the company more than doubled the adoption of Wind River Platforms.
As embedded development costs continue to increase, Wind River's customers standardise across the enterprise on market-specific Platforms allowing them to improve development efficiencies, accelerate time to market and enhance product reliability.
New customers that purchased the Platforms in Q2 include BF Goodrich, Boeing, Hewlett Packard, Intel, Nortel Networks, Siemens VDO, Solectron Corporation, Toyota and more.
In addition, many customers that had subscribed to platform products in prior quarters added seats to their original license.
These customers included Lucent, L3 Communications, Motorola and Samsung, among others.
"Wind River's enterprise licensing model provides Siemens VDO with increased flexibility in how we manage our development seats.
It is another great example of Wind River raising the bar for embedded solutions providers and successfully meeting a true customer demand", said Alexander Kocher, Vice President Car Infotainment Solutions for Siemens VDO.
"Wind River is focused on providing our customers with the technology they need to develop leading edge, innovative end products.
With our market-specific integrated embedded platforms available through our annual subscription model, our customers are guaranteed next generation technologies and enhancements such as IPv6, XML, SOAP and WiFi support enabling a truly connected world", said Dave Fraser, Group Vice President of Product for Wind River Systems.
"The rapid adoption of our Platforms speaks to the embedded community's need for standardisation".
During the next two quarters, the company also plans to announce the next generation of its market-specific integrated embedded Platforms, which will deliver additional innovative communications, security and networking technologies to its customers in the digital consumer, network equipment, industrial and aerospace and defence markets.
With the next-generation of Platforms on the way, existing customers can look forward to upgrading to the latest market-specific technology that will be available to them as part of their annual subscription.
With Wind River's subscription based licensing model customers approach software development with an enterprise-wide focus, gain control of development costs and speed time to profitability.
