Support speeds switch development
Wind River has completed the initial integration phase for the switch support package integrating the Tornado for Managed Switches 2.0 product line with the IBM PowerNP NP4GS3 Network Processor.
This sizeable growth in wireless and broadband access is also driving the need for network infrastructure equipment, such as routers and switches.
Manufacturers of next generation network equipment are looking to standardise on integrated solutions that can be re-used across multiple product lines in order to keep development costs down.
Wind River has been working closely with industry leaders including Intel and Motorola to anticipate customers' needs, combining proven networking technologies with the most up to date components to become the ideal solution for a wide variety of network projects.
Designed expressly for developers of network infrastructure systems, Platform NE 2.0 is a highly integrated platform, which enables the rapid development of reliable network infrastructure equipment.
Platform NE integrates the industry's most widely deployed real-time operating system with advanced hardware and software development tools, complete device management software, and essential embedded networking protocols including: wireless protocols; security protocols; high performance router stack and routing protocols; and connectivity and remote access protocols.
Platform NE is compatible with a broad range of processor architectures, including Intel StrongARM, Intel XScale microarchitecture, Intel Architecture, PowerPC, MIPS, ARM and SuperH, allowing the developer to select the architecture that provides the best cost/performance for the product under development.
"Wind River is committed to helping our customers create cutting edge products to meet new market opportunities", said Dave Fraser Group Vice President and GM, Products, for Wind River.
"Wind River Platforms are a proven, effective and reliable foundation for development success, and our enterprise-wide subscription licensing model enables network equipment manufacturers to incorporate market-specific technology required to stay competitive, year over year".
In response to changing market needs for IP stack performance, Wind River has increased the performance capabilities in Wind River's router stack, as reflected in results from a recent Intel performance test in which Wind River PNE doubled improvement over the standard Wind River VxWorks 5.5 network stack.
Platform NE 2.0 is available immediately for the full line of Intel network processors.
Current Wind River Platform NE customers will receive a free upgrade to Platform NE 2.0.
