The Wind Power IDE 2 is the next generation of Wind River's market leading integrated development environment.

The Wind Power IDE 2 is the next generation of Wind River's market leading integrated development environment.

Wind Power IDE 2, built on the Eclipse open framework, will offer support for VxWorks and Linux - the standards in device software development - as well as additional operating systems.

Combining the strengths of Wind River development tools and the Eclipse framework, Wind Power IDE 2 integrates best in class device software development capabilities into an open environment that can be used across a range of projects to drive software optimisation, increased collaboration and more productive development.

"In the device world, developers have many options when selecting their software solutions.

Wind River has responded with a product portfolio in support of Linux and VxWorks that adapts to the way developers work by providing solutions that meet their specific needs with proven capabilities", said Stephen Balacco, Embedded Systems Research Analyst, Venture Development Corporation.

With Wind Power IDE companies can: develop projects using a single integrated development environment; standardise development processes regardless of the operating system; and use the combined environment across a range of applications, including hardware bring-up, device driver and BSP development as well as device application software development.

New technology features include: code browsing and static analysis; simultaneous debugging of multiple threads, processes and processors; on-chip (JTAG) and target agent based debugging capabilities; system level profiling based on Wind View technologies; and the integration of Wind River's Diab, SingleStep, SniFF+, Tornado, visionClick/XD and Wind River JTAG emulation tool capabilities in a common environment based on Eclipse technology.

"With Wind Power IDE 2, Wind River is committed to providing industry leading development tools with support for multiple operating systems", said Rob McCammon, Director of Marketing for Development Tools at Wind River.

"Linux is important in the device software optimisation market and as the leading provider of Platforms that enable DSO; we will continue to invest in products for cross-project development".

Wind Power IDE 2 for the Linux operating system will be available in May.

Wind Power IDE for VxWorks 6.0 will be available through the VxWorks 6.0 release programme.
