Wind River Systems and Express Logic are to collaborate to extend Wind River Workbench 2.3 to support Express Logic's ThreadX real-time operating system.

Wind River Systems and Express Logic have announced a partnership agreement through which the two companies will collaborate to extend Wind River Workbench 2.3 to support Express Logic's ThreadX real-time operating system (RTOS) Wind River Workbench is an Eclipse-based development suite that supports the entire device software development lifecycle, from hardware bring-up to manufacturing

Express Logic's ThreadX RTOS is a small-footprint, royalty-free RTOS widely deployed in high-volume devices for consumer electronics, wireless networking, medical equipment, and industrial automation.

By extending Wind River Workbench support to Express Logic's ThreadX operating system, Wind River is delivering on its commitment to provide truly interoperable tools for multiple operating systems.

With this announcement, ThreadX becomes the latest operating system to be supported by Wind River Workbench, in addition to Wind River's VxWorks RTOS, Wind River Linux, Red Hat Linux, MontaVista Linux and the standard Kernel.org Linux.

"When our customers invest in ThreadX, they expect an easy-to-use, highly advanced, dynamic solution, and we know Wind River's customers expect the same from its device software solutions", said John Carbone, Vice President of Marketing, Express Logic.

"By incorporating the ThreadX RTOS with Wind River Workbench, we can now offer our joint customers a tightly integrated, complete solution that addresses the full lifecycle of their device software development needs".

"Wind River is committed to helping its customers develop and run device software faster, better, at a lower cost and more reliably", said Rob McCammon, Director of Product Management for Wind River Development Suite, Wind River.

"We recognise the value of the ThreadX operating system for the device software space across all vertical markets, and embrace the opportunity to extend Wind River Workbench to support it as part of our ongoing promise to provide standardised and optimised device development solutions to our customers".
