A new software version increases the measurement capabilities of the Willtek 9101 handheld spectrum analyser, helping technicians to find faults and to repair and align RF devices for cable TV, wireless LAN and mobile communication applications Willtek designs its testers to enable increased efficiency and productivity for operators and handset manufacturers

The improvements in the 9101 tester bolster the advanced functions it already provides by adding predefined, application-oriented capabilities allowing technicians to focus on measurement and alignment.

This will ease their job and help them become more effective in their work.

These new functions are possible in a spectrum analyser only because the 9101 has a power measurement accuracy that is unmatched in its price range.

In addition to the channel power measurement capability that is already available on the instrument, the new application includes adjacent channel power ratio and occupied bandwidth.

Both functions allow a selective measurement in modulated broadcast and carrier systems, such as GSM, UMTS, WLAN and cable TV.

Two new functions help to achieve proper absolute power measurement results when the external RF connection differs from a standard setup.

The software can also compensate for attenuation or gain introduced by external cabling and devices.

In addition, cables and transmitters with an impedance of 75ohm can be connected through an adapter in combination with the new software to compensate frequency-dependent losses; this is important because TV equipment uses 75ohm whereas most other RF equipment applies 50ohm impedance.

The 9101 is a low-cost, full-featured spectrum analyser applied in many fields, such as mobile phone service, wireless local loop and for new 2.4GHz Wi-Fi systems.

Typical measurements look at transmitter characteristics, alignment of modulators and measure amplifier gain.

With a frequency range of 100kHz to 4GHz, the 9101 can test all modern wireless local oscillators, plus the harmonics and spurs that sneak into the passband.

The 140-degree viewing angle and a colour display with enhanced graphics provide a perfect view of all details.

Manual operation is easy with many marker functions, storage of setups and user-defined limit templates.

With the built-in remote control capability via RS232 or LAN, the 9101 is also used in monitoring and automated test environments.
