New format for embedded SBCs
Epic is the new next-generation 4.5 x 6.5in embedded single board computer platform for the industrial market.
Epic is the new next-generation 4.5 x 6.5in embedded single board computer platform for the industrial market.
This mid-sized platform is larger than a 3.6 x 3.8in PC/104 module yet smaller than 5.75 x 8.0in EBX board.
It is big enough to support the larger, more power CPUs with their fans and heatsinks as well as industry standard I/O connectors for real-world interfaces.
Applications for Epic include test equipment, medical instruments, communications devices, transportation systems, security, military/COTS, data loggers, robotics, semiconductor manufacturing instruments, and industrial control systems.
The specification and further details can be found at www.epic-sbc.org.
"Winsystems drew upon our 23 years of experience in the embedded systems market as we worked with the four other companies to define this new specification", said Robert Burckle, Vice-President of Winsystems.
"We are pleased at the spirit of co-operation and short time period required to define and launch this new embedded SBC standard.
Epic is needed for embedded computing and this new platform provides a bridge to the future.
Expect to see rugged, industrial-grade Epic SBCs from Winsystems soon".
