Winsystems supports EPIC Express
EPIC Express is a new standard that adds PCI Express to the Embedded Platform for Industrial Computing platform without changing the size of the base board or expansion modules.
Winsystems is supporting EPIC Express, a new standard that adds the high-bandwidth PCI Express to the Embedded Platform for Industrial Computing (EPIC) platform without changing the sise of the base board or expansion modules.
"EPIC Express is the industry's first stacking PCI Express architecture", said Robert Burckle, Vice-President of Winsystems.
"It replaces the PCIbus connector with a stackable PCI Express connector which increases the bandwidth up to 16x while reducing the connector space requirements by two-thirds".
"A stacking architecture is ideal for keeping costs low while maintaining a rugged, self-aligned group of boards".
"PCI Express is the wave of the future for high performance I/O in both desktop and industrial/embedded applications", said Burckle.
"EPIC Express is the logical evolution of the EPIC specification as it stacks PCI Express expansion capability onto this industrial computing platform".
"EPIC Express provides a bridge to the future while maintaining legacy support for the vast number of PC/104 expansion modules available worldwide".
"I am pleased at the spirit of co-operation of the five companies that defined EPIC Express as witnessed by the short time period required to define and launch this new embedded SBC standard".
