Wolfson Microelectronics is providing financial support to enable Kate Cullen, a talented Edinburgh cyclist, to train full time and compete at the highest international level.

The company has agreed a one year sponsorship deal with the cyclist.

"Wolfson is proud to support such a talented athlete at the start of her international career".

"Cycling is a sport that many at Wolfson participate in both in their leisure time and as a means of transport to and from work so the sponsorship deal has been a natural progression of that", commented Julian Hayes, VP of marketing for Wolfson.

"Kate has already achieved the selection criteria for the 2006 Commonwealth Games and we hope that the support that Wolfson provides her will enable her career to take off from there".

Cullen commented: "I am extremely excited about the deal with Wolfson".

"For the first time since I took up competitive track cycling in 2002 I am able train and compete full time".

"The support offered enables me to prepare for competition as a full time athlete".

"In addition to the extra time made available by stopping work, the backing of Wolfson also allows me to seek a higher level of competition in Europe".

"This has enabled me to optimise my preparation for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne where I intend to win a medal in the points race in the velodrome".
