Wolfson Microelectronics has appointed Alistair Banham as Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales effective from 14th August 2006.

Banham takes over the role from Jim Reid who has been acting in this role over the past year alongside his ongoing business development responsibilities.

Banham's key objective will be to build on Wolfson's existing worldwide sales strategy for its three key business units: portable, consumer audio and imaging.

Banham has 22 years of experience in the semiconductor market covering a broad range of roles from sales management to operations.

He joins Wolfson from Philips Semiconductor where, as the Senior Vice President and General Manager Regional Sales and Operations EMEA, he was responsible for driving increased revenues, design wins and market share in the key markets of mobile and personal communications, automotive, identification, consumer and multimarket semiconductors.

Banham joined Philips Semiconductor in 2002 from ON Semiconductor where he was General Manager and President of EMEA region.

ON Semiconductor was founded in August 1999 following the purchase of SCG (Semiconductor Components Group) from Motorola in April 1999.

Prior to ON Semiconductor, Banham was at Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector from 1992.

David Milne, Chief Executive Officer of Wolfson Microelectronics, said: "We are delighted to welcome Alistair to the company".

"His long experience in developing businesses in the semiconductor industry will be a tremendous asset to us as we continue to expand our global business and push our mixed-signal products into new market segments".
