Wolfson Microelectronics has been named as winner of the Semiconductor Product of the Year award at Elektra 2006.
Wolfson Microelectronics has been named as winner of the Semiconductor Product of the Year award at Elektra 2006.
The European Electronics Industry Awards recognise the achievements of individuals and companies working in the electronics industry and were presented at a gala dinner in Munich on 15th November 2006.
This is the second time that Wolfson has achieved success at the prestigious ceremony, with the first being the Supplier of the Year award in 2004.
Following the presentation, Alistair Banham, Senior VP of Worldwide Sales, said: "The WM8985 multimedia codec is a truly innovative device that enables users to save up to 50% on current consumption, a key requirement for portable products".
"It is also the first switchable Class A/B to Class D headphone driver on the market".
"Wolfson strives to bring innovative state-of-the-art products to market and we are thrilled and privileged to receive recognition from within the European electronics design community".
The judges of the Semiconductor of the Year category were looking for a product with a clear differentiation in the market together with innovation in the design, time to market and overall commercial success.
The WM8985 impressed the judges on all counts and, in the face of competition from Actel, Analog Devices, CSR, ST Microelectronics and Xignal Technologies, Wolfson was recognised as one of the top achievers in the industry.
