David Milne, Wolfson's co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year at the Growing Business Awards.

Wolfson Microelectronics plc is delighted to announce that David Milne, the company's co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year at the Growing Business Awards.

Wolfson was also named Company of the Year.

The awards, presented by Real Business and the CBI, were announced at a gala dinner hosted by William Hague in London.

Accepting the awards for Wolfson, Alistair Banham, Senior VP Worldwide Sales, said, "We are immensely proud to receive this coveted recognition from the UK Business Community".

"They are a testament to the strength of the company's vision, strategy and execution in one of the most competitive business environments in the world".

Following the ceremony, David Milne added, "I am extremely proud to receive the Entrepreneur of the Year award from my peers in the wider business community".

"I am fortunate at Wolfson to be part of such a dedicated and ambitious team and, with the company going from strength to strength in recent times, I am confident that this success will continue".

Richard Lambert, CBI Director-General, also commented, "There are so many fantastic companies out there, creating wealth and jobs for the country, but few ever get the recognition they deserve".

"That is why the Growing Business Awards are so important".

"They celebrate the success of the best in British business and as the success stories of today will inevitably inspire the entrepreneurs of tomorrow".

The Entrepreneur of the Year award, sponsored by Allied Irish Bank, is given to an individual whose contribution to their company or community and the wider economy is both extraordinary and measurable.

David Milne, who recently announced that he is to retire from his position of CEO next year, has successfully steered Wolfson from an Edinburgh University spin out to a publicly quoted, market leading fabless semiconductor company.

Previous winners have included Simon Nixon of moneysupermarket.com and Gary Laurence of Huntress Search.

The Company of the Year award is presented to companies that show an outstanding growth and performance over their peers by delivering a compelling business strategy.

The judges look for innovative companies that, in the past financial year, have created new jobs and have developed and trained staff to successfully develop their range of products.

This award was sponsored by Alliance Corporate Risk Management, and has been won previously by Betfair and Sophos.
