Mainboards begin the EPIC for Wordsworth
Wordsworth Technology has released two new mainboards - the Nano-7270 and Nano-7240 - based on the new EPIC form factor.
Wordsworth Technology has released two new mainboards - the Nano-7270 and Nano-7240 - based on the new EPIC form factor.
EPIC stands for embedded platform for industrial computing, and has been defined by five leading SBC manufacturers, with the intention of providing a new platform for embedded single board computers with multiple I/O expansion slots.
The EPIC form factor is a small, industrial-grade, embedded SBC, sised in-between the EBX and PC/104 form factors, with the option of I/O expansion through PC/104, PC/104+, USB and Ethernet.
The high performance Nano-7270 is based on the socket-479 Intel Pentium M processor and supports dual LVDS channels, a VGA port, two SATA IDE ports, six USB 2.0 ports, an IDE port, an LPT port, four COM ports, one PC/104 interface, one PC/104+ interface and a CompactFlash Type II socket.
The mid-range performance Nano-7240 is based on the Intel ULV Celeron 400MHz (and optional 650MHz) processor and supports an LVDS channel, a VGA port, four USB 1.1 ports, an IDE channel, an LPT port, a PC/104 interface, a PC/104+ interface, and a CompactFlash Type II socket.
"We are very pleased to add these new EPIC form factor mainboards to our product range", said Nick Coxhead, Technical Director at Wordsworth Technology.
"The EPIC SBC mainboards are targeted at customers who require faster CPUs and more I/O functions, especially for applications that do not allow the use of the larger EBX form factor mainboards".
"The 3.5in form factor is often too small to allow more functionality and a lot of the 5.25in mainboards do not manage the I/O very efficiently".
"The new EPIC boards provide the perfect answer to these issues", he continued.
The EPIC mainboards measure 115 x 165mm, compared with the PC/104 at 90 x 96mm, and the EBX form factor of 146 x 203mm.
