Access packet processor puts IP and ATM together
Wintegra is sampling its novel WinPath, the industry's first access packet processor.
Access packet processors target IP DSLAMs
Two new access packet processors share the same market-leading software set of the WinPath family, while targeting systems that require less performance than the flagship WIN787 device.
iTDM was created to carry many TDM voice and data calls over a packet based system making it well suited to facilitate the ongoing convergence of data and voice based networks.
iTDM supported on various AMC (Advanced Mezzanine Card) boards in an AdvancedTCA system leads to straightforward designs of Media Gateways, Media Servers, PBXs and PSTN switches.
For Wintegra's WinPath users, adding this new iTDM support is straightforward, involving only a simple software upgrade from their current protocols such as ML/MC-PPP, PPP-Mux, Frame Relay, ML-FR, IMA and PWE3.
So existing AMC cards can now support a wide array of protocols using these production-verified packages from Wintegra.
All these software packages are royalty and NRE free from Wintegra.
"The addition of iTDM to Wintegra's growing list of supported protocols provides an efficient and effective method to support legacy telephony standards in an infrastructure migrating to IP", said Liviu Pinchas, Director of Technical Product Marketing at Wintegra.
"Wintegra is one of few access processor manufacturers facilitating the migration of today's PSTN features into the rapidly evolving networks of tomorrow".
Wintegra's iTDM offering supports two basic configurations, a low density software only option for up to 2000 DS0s and a hardware assisted high density variant for up to 8000 DS0s.
iTDM highlights for the low-density software-only option include: I-TDM over Ethernet packet format; I-TDM grooming, moving of TDM channel position within the packet or between packet flows; and I-TDM 125us payload format (single DS0 and multi DS0 time slot formats).
Wintegra's iTDM solution is available now.
