A new company aims to develop and market a family of wireless technologies and products that will provide flexible, affordable, reliable data collection solutions for industrial applications.

Affordable and effective wireless technologies are poised to revolutionise the data collection industry According to analysts, the transformation of automated data collection could be a new multi-billion-dollar a year business

To meet this opportunity, a new San Diego based company, Wireless Innovation, has been launched to develop and market a family of wireless technologies and products that will provide flexible, affordable, reliable data collection solutions for industrial applications like manufacturing, process control and warehousing.

Wireless Innovation's short-range wireless transmitters, receivers, repeaters and gateways will make it easy for OEMs and system integrators to quickly deploy flexible, reliable, high-performance data acquisition, transmission and collection networks at a fraction of the cost of other wired and wireless solutions.

In addition, Wireless Innovation will also provide custom engineering design and manufacturing services, making it even easier for OEMs and system integrators looking to develop and deploy wireless data collection solutions.

"Low-cost wireless sensor networks have huge potential for extending the scope of enterprise information and enhancing process efficiency", says Glen Allmendinger, president of Harbor Research, a leading strategic consulting and research firm.

"Our research indicates that low cost, dependable wireless technologies will open up several new segments in the marketplace and be a major contributor to the over $250 billion value-add services market resulting from pervasive Internet technologies.

Many of today's manual and semi-automated processes will become obsolete.

Put another way, once the cost of technology falls to a certain point, there is almost no enterprise task too simple to automate and improve".

Numerous veterans and innovators in the high tech and wireless industry have come together to form Wireless Innovation.

The senior management team includes CEO Richard Eppel, whose 30 years of high tech industry experience includes management positions at Anna Technology, I-Bus, National Advanced Systems and Parrallel Computer.

John Krill, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, has over 20 years of management experience with leading technology companies including Orchestream, NetManage, I-Bus, Genisco and Fujistu.

CTO and President, Ken Arnold, has an extensive background in the design, application, hardware, software and system engineering aspects of embedded computing and wireless communication.

With over 20 years experience, Arnold holds several patents, is the author of several papers, articles and the book "Embedded controller hardware design".

Arnold has also has been a curriculum developer and lecturer for engineering courses through the University of California at San Diego Extension.

Arnold is also the program co-ordinator for embedded computer engineering certificate courses at UCSD.

"The flexibility of wireless data collection holds great appeal for operators of manufacturing, process control, and warehouse facilities, enabling them to provide detailed information to back-end supervisory and management systems that greatly enhances operating and inventory management efficiency", says Ken Arnold.

"Our patent pending wireless technologies make data collection both reliable and affordable.

Facilities designers, operators, and managers will now be able to economically extend the reach of their data collection networks, and to build smart, environmentally friendly factories, warehouses and process systems that operate at peak efficiency while reducing waste and maximising utilisation of available resources".
